Woolgathering

Today, Lisa and I went into Reno for larger-scale grocery shopping. Before leaving Fernley, I stopped at the Pilot truck stop to refuel the van. After refueling, I was entering the information into my mileage log when I realized something was amiss. Gas prices up here are around 20 cents/gallon cheaper than the Bay Area, so why had I just spent about as much as when I refuel in Fremont? Then it hit me: I had absentmindedly hit the Premium button on the pump, which is completely unnecessary on my 1989 Chevy Astro minivan. The reason I hadn't realized much until I was done was that the price of Premium in Fernley is only four cents/gallon more than the price of regular in Fremont.
