To my annoyance, neither the motel in which I'm booked from Sunday night nor any of my usual haunts has the three additional room nights I need; therefore, I get to spend tonight in one motel, the weekend in another, and next week in a third. I also switch hotels over the following weekend in pursuit of a particular frequent-stay bonus from IHG (the former Priority Club/Holiday Inn program) in which I am a Platinum member. It's a good thing I'm experienced at moving in and out of motels.
(I'm really pleased that one of Loncon 3's main hotels is a Holiday Inn Express. I'll be online on Day 1 aiming to get a room there when booking opens. I suppose I'd try to use points for a room there, but as a former Worldcon chair, I understand the importance of conventions making their room blocks. I'll probably use the points for nights before/after the convention instead.)
It's slightly cheaper to spend the money on the extra hotel nights than to go down tonight, deal with the business on Friday, then go home and then back to the Bay Area on Sunday. But more importantly, those eight-hour drives (one way) are such that I now try to avoid doing them unless I must do so.
