Turn Out the Lights

Both Lisa and I were up relatively early this morning and were able to get in to Reno/Sparks for our regular weekend shopping run by 11 AM. We stopped first at the Nugget, where I cashed the $20 ticket on the 49ers and rolled it onto another bet for them to win today's NFC championship game. We then went to breakfast at the Nugget buffet before doing our grocery shopping. As usual, we figure the cost of the meal more than offsets any additional groceries we would be apt to purchase if hungry.

Because we were so efficient with our shopping, we were home about the time the San Francisco-Seattle playoff game started. We don't have broadcast or cable television here, but I was able to listen to the game on KNBR via iHeartRadio, and for the first three quarters, it looked like the 49ers would win, it maybe not cover my 3 1/2-point ticket. But things fell apart in the end, and Seattle's going to the Super Bowl where they will face the Denver Broncos. Oh, well, I probably wouldn't have been able to see the game anyway inasmuch as I'll be driving back to the Bay Area that day. I wish the two teams the Ice Bowl that some people assume a Super Bowl in New Jersey in January will be.

Meanwhile, I've determined by trial and error that I can watch ESPN3 coverage of the Australian open on my home network (provider AT&T, but not U-verse), but not the ESPN2 "main stage" coverage. So I get to see some of the matches, but not all of them.
