While heading east on I-580 through Castro Valley, and shortly after Lisa reviewed with me skid-recovery in a rear-wheel-drive vehicle like my minivan, I drove through a pool of water that I didn't even know was there until I felt the left rear start to break loose. Fortunately, I was only going about 50 MPH to start with, and when I immediately let off the throttle and kept the wheel straight, the van recovered quickly, but it was a scary moment.
We got caught behind traffic slowdowns caused by multi-vehicle accidents in South Sacramento on I-5 and just east of Auburn on I-80. We ourselves had no problems, other than we were both very tired.
Weather over Donner Summit was heavy rain, but no snow as we crossed between 3 and 4 PM. We got out ahead of the storm east of Reno, but by the time we pulled up to Fernley House, the rain caught back up to us, making unloading the van a chore. But home we are, and home I expect to stay for the next two weeks, save for trips to Reno/Sparks.
