Solstice Snow

No, not here at Fernley House (although it's oddly cool for the first day of Summer), but as the sunrise touched the peaks of the Pah Rah Range west of here, I took a picture of something I'd not seen on the first day of Summer before.

Solstice Snow

It's not easy to see, but there's still a small outcropping of snow up on the top of one of the peaks. This is not that unusual for the Sierra Nevada fifty miles to the west, but it's relatively rare in my experience for there to be snow still sitting on these mountains on the first day of spring, let alone summer.

Later today — as soon as I can clear the Day Jobbe stuff sufficiently — we are heading for Sacramento, where will be staying a couple of nights. Tomorrow is my mother's memorial service, and we'll take my sister up to Brownsville for it.
