Web Work

I finally had a chance today — the first and only time between Westercon and Worldcon, I think — to spend several hours (roughly six) working on the Westercon 74 website, which mostly consisted of copying a lot of the material from the bid's web site into the appropriate pages of the convention site, but also included clean-up and tweaking of some of the wording, replacing the "opening titles video with one that fixed something from the original version, and substantially rewording the Registration page to explain that we don't do our own credit card processing, but outsource it, and the providers may retain information about you if you ever used them before, although we don't retain credit card information except when you send it to us by paper form.

Something else we added is that we're asking those remaining voters eligible to upgrade to attending for $10 through the end of 2019 to, if it's possible for them to do so, to upgrade using a paper registration form and by sending the payment to us by mail or in person at a convention. That's because of the processing fees incurred through the online service, which are substantial when dealing with only a $10 upgrade.

I'm sure there are plenty of typos and other mistakes on the site, but I hope people will understand that such mistakes aren't deliberate. Also, as we've been warning folks since we won, most of the committee will be going to Worldcon and thus not working much on Westercon until we return from Ireland in September. It's not that we want to discourage people, but there's still lots of time to plan for the 2021 Westercon, so don't panic if you haven't heard from us yet!
