Kevin and Lisa

After All These Years

I have passed through the city of Grass Valley many times. When I worked at a comic book store in Marysville, I would sometimes drive to Grass Valley, where our distributor (Bud Plant Inc.) was located, to collect our shipment of comics a day earlier than if we waited for the UPS shipment. It's located on Route 20, the road between the Marysville-Yuba City Area and Reno. But as it happens, I've never eaten or shopped or done much of anything else here. (I have stopped now and then slightly up the road in Nevada City or in the area between the two cities.) But since there is no longer a Holiday Inn-chain hotel in Yuba City and I have lots of Priority Club points to use and since it seemed prudent to get over Donner Pass the night before Thanksgiving, Lisa and I are staying at the Grass Valley Holiday Inn Express for two nights and will be going on to Sutter later today to spend Thanksgiving with my mother. And we have a lot to be thankful for there, as not too long ago, none of the doctors expected that my mother would be alive this Thanksgiving, while now she's significantly recovered and is happily working on making us all Thanksgiving dinner today.

After our Reno-Sparks errands, we were actually on our way to California. Aside from the inevitable clog in the middle of Reno, where the road construction is still going on, the drive yesterday afternoon was actually rather pleasant. There was no bad weather, the roads were clear, and we got to Grass Valley before the sun set.

There's a fairly good chance that this won't be the last time we spend the night in Grass Valley as long as I'm using/earning Priority Club points, so perhaps we'll have an opportunity to explore more of the shops and restaurants here in the future.
