I took real advantage of the Holiday Inn Express Vacaville last night and my room upgrade to a mini-suite. After soaking in the hot tub, I spent a very relaxing evening watching Australian Open tennis before falling asleep in a very comfortable bed, and I slept in a whole two hours before rolling out of bed and getting some things done online before heading down for breakfast. I shouldn't have eaten that bagel, however; my blood sugar did not thank me for it.
On to Yuba City I went, stopping first at my storage locker, where I spent about an hour humping boxes out of my locker and into the back of my van. We took all but the front seats out to maximize capacity when I came down last time, and I loaded a lot of boxes. That means the locker is now only about 75% full. I reckon I need to make at lest two more trips filled at least this full before we're down to the point where we're down to the things that won't fit in the van and for which we'll need to rent a truck.
You'd hardly know it was winter; the weather is more like early spring. I worked up quite a sweat hauling boxes before going over to visit my sister and mother. They're always glad to see me, and I'm glad to have arranged my schedule to see them more regularly. I only wish I could spend more time with them, but I really didn't want to be driving on CA-20 in the dark again. As the days are slightly longer than they were the last time I made that drive, this trip I was able to make it out of the twisty bits before full dark. There was a spectacular sunset view at one of the vista points that I couldn't stop to enjoy, and also someone flying an ultralight around the Yuba River bridge on the road up to Smartsville.
I got home around 8 PM and unloaded my luggage and computers and such. The boxes can wait until daylight. We want to put one of the surplus pallets we got from Big R on the floor of the garage before we start piling boxes up. Eventually the boxes will get put on shelves or unpacked, but we need to get them out of my van first. Astonishingly, aside from collapsing under their own weight, they appear to have taken no harm from having sat for years on the concrete slab of the storage locker.
I don't have to set an alarm for tomorrow morning. Such luxury! Current Mood: tired
