Beware of Trains

Switching it Up

On our way home from the post office and getting propane a couple of days ago, Lisa and I saw that the local BNSF switch crew had received a new locomotive and was in the process of swapping one unit for another.

While this locomotive swap was taking place, "Big BN" (which had dropped off the new unit) was getting ready to depart on the main; a UP freight was passing on the siding, and a UP signal maintainer was driving through (visible in this picture). Fernley can be quite the railroad hot spot, even though it's "merely" a through siding on the UP mainline.
