No, we didn't start hunting the rabbits who live around our house. Raley's happened to have some rabbit for sale yesterday when we went shopping, and Lisa, who had never cooked rabbit before, decided to take a shot at it. Along with some wild rice mix, it made for a nice dinner.
My grandparents used to raise rabbits for food, and we hunted wild rabbits casually when we hunted pheasant in my teens, so I used to have it regularly, but they got tired of dealing with the temperamental rabbits, and we stopped hunting around the time I started college, so I think this might have been the first time in nearly forty years that I've eaten rabbit.
When we went out for a walk after dinner, we happened to see one of the local bunnies. It must have known what we'd been having for our dinner, for it lit out for parts unknown when we walked past.
