Westercon 74 PR 3 Published

Westercon 74's Progress Report 3 was published this week. If you want to see it, you can download it from the convention's Publications page. As with our previous progress reports, it is in the "mini-booklet" form, so it looks better if you print it on a double-sided sheet of paper and fold it twice.

The paper copies mailed earlier this week and I'm pleased to hear that they've been arriving within 2-3 days of posting from Fernley. The email announcement went out to most members yesterday.

The news in this PR was about the "Surprise Guests of Honor," so it wasn't that crucial that the news get to everyone at the same time, but it was a good test for our next PR, which I think will have people wanting to get the information at almost the same time. While I do not expect there to be a problem with any current member getting a hotel reservation (fewer than 200 attending members and around 500 hotels in Tonopah means there is lots of space), we've never said we can fit the entire convention under one roof, and some people may not get their first choices. On the other hand, there are about 200 rooms in the "downtown core" of Tonopah, so it seems safe to say that when we initially open booking, the only reason for not staying downtown is for a reason other than there being no room at the inn.
