Crowne Plaza Dethroned

As I mentioned back on the first day of the Worldcon trip, we stayed in the Crowne Plaza Sacramento, where we've stayed a number of times (most of when I was visiting my late sister at the nearby nursing facility in which she was living), and that I'd once again been given a suite upgrade there, albeit that hotel's suites were somewhat oddly shaped and arranged. It turns out that this won't be anything about which I need to concern myself again.

When I was making projected plans for the trip home from San Jose to Fernley, I was checking hotel rates for IHG properties in the Sacramento area in case we needed to bail out halfway home. I wondered why that Crowne Plaza wouldn't show up on the list. A little bit more Googling showed that it wasn't there anymore.

You'll need to zoom in to see it because the timing of my shots on my phone as we drove by wasn't that good, but in between our stay on December 6 and the first of the year (I assume on January 1), this hotel changed from a Crowne Plaza to a Wyndham.

It wasn't the best-appointed hotel in which we've ever stayed, but it had a location advantage of being an IHG property just off the freeway, and relatively close to services. However, it was in an increasingly run-down condition. Maybe the new image will result in a badly-needed remodel. We'll not likely see, it, though, as I'm likely to stick with IHG as it's done well by us.

My IHG elite status is usually used when traveling to/from conventions, as relatively few IHG properties are part of Worldcons or Westercons. However, I noted that what used to be the Moat House in Glasgow is now an IHG property, and assuming that they win their 2024 Worldcon bid, I look forward to possibly taking advantage of my status there.
