Zoom Socializing
[Manually cross-posted while the DW-LJ cross-posting remains broken]
I spent a lot of time on Zoom today, early in the day attending a meeting of the CanSMOF board of directors, but for much of the rest of the day attending a virtual Old Pharts Party. That is, gatherings of the society of Former Worldcon Chairs. (By courtesy, chairs of future Worldcon Chairs are considered "cadet members" and are also invited to such meetings.) I've made no secret of the fact that I consider the Old Pharts Party at Worldcon, held after the convention has ended, is one of my favorite parts of attending Worldcon. But of course even in pre-COVID days, not every past Chair can be there, even the ones who attended the convention, due to travel constraints. Dave McCarty, who has been organizing the past few years' parties, has now organized online versions of them, which are easier to attend and probably less tiring.
I was happy to spend a few hours sitting at the computer socializing with other Worldcon chairs and selected other people (Lisa was here as well) talking in a relaxed atmosphere. Maybe we'll do this more often.
