It's a Bigge

There's construction going on across the tracks here in Fernley. We aren't that pleased with the business going in there because of the amount of hazardous materials they'll be handling and because despite being adjacent to the tracks, it won't be rail-served, and that means generating a lot more truck traffic that will enter the main highway at a notoriously bad (and unsignaled) intersection.

It's a Bigge

A few days ago I saw that they were assembling a crane from Bigge. They're a common sight for large cranes, but this one got me curious enough to finally go look up whether the "e" was silent or not. Based on a video on their website with the company president talking about their company, I now know that the company name is pronounced "biggie," not "big." Of course, with their cranes, either pronunciation would be appropriate.

Today I saw that the pace of construction was heating up.

All of these walls went up this morning.

The crane makes short work of lifting the prefabricated concrete walls into place.</cut>

I hope that our concerns about this new business are misplaced and that they work safely and without incident.
