Chipmunk Watch
This morning when I went outside to the porch, one of the local chipmunks that was visiting the birdseed pile lit out for cover in the bushes on the far side of the lot. Unlike the chipmunks up at the Chemult rest area on US-97 in Oregon (who are used to being fed by passing motorists), our chipmunks are extremely shy and almost never stay put long enough to get a picture of them. The rabbits are wary, but don't seem to worry too much about the humans as long as we stay on our side of the fence and don't move too quickly. The birds are also wary, but usually not too nervous as long as we sit still and make no sudden moves. For the chipmunks, I think I'm going to have to put birdseed over on the far side of the lot and set up the camera on a tripod and longer magnification than I can get with my phone if I'm going to get any good pictures of them.
