We made at least two unscheduled stops along the way south, as we were looking for a new pair of shoes for Lisa. We found an SAS store in San Jose that had the same (US-made) style she currently wears, and she's happy with them. We made a scheduled stop for a (by then rather late) lunch at Pea Soup Andersen's in Santa Nella. I was keeping the speed down below 60, and therefore was getting passed by everyone, although the road wasn't quite as full of low-flying aircraft as I-5 used to be. When I refueled in Bakersfield, I found that I was getting over 21 MPG, which is quite good for that van.

We made it to our scheduled overnight stop in Tehachapi, California, just after 10 PM, only about 45 minutes later than my previous projection. After the usual moving-in stuff, we decided to walk across the street to the mini-market rather than try and get out and find something for dinner. I dug in to my e-mail, but have only scratched the surface. Before I read more, I must have dinner.
