Brake It Up

My regular mechanic changed the oil pressure sender unit on my van today. He kindly didn't charge me any labor on that, because, as he put it, "We're taking a shot in the dark here," given that he couldn't find any other reason for the wild gauge variations I got on Monday night. At my direction, he also did a front brake service, on account of the front brake pads were down to minimums. That's a one-day turnaround, I can feel the difference in the brakes, and in the short drive back home, the oil pressure gauge stayed relatively stable in about the spot it normally does. Fingers crossed.

As I've said before, I really like this mechanic. He never oversells; indeed, in this case, he noted some small things but said they probably weren't urgent, and that made me more likely to say, "go ahead and service the brakes, what with the trip to Oregon coming up." If only he were always within range when something goes bad, but alas, some of the serious failures have happened when I've been far away, like those rip-off artists in Wells.
